Inspired by the weathered details of everyday life as much as the dramatic landscapes of coastal Alaska, Holly Dickinson’s paintings explore where nature and home meet. Through bold contrasts in texture and color, her works find beauty in both the overlooked and the extraordinary, revealing how the natural and built environments intertwine.

Become a bone detective and discover what skeletons can
tell us about the marine mammals of Alaska! Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center will be hosting a marine mammal osteology discovery lab in partnership with the Kenai Peninsula College. Displays will feature marine mammal bones, skulls, and pelts. Event is free and open to explorers of all ages. Explore this interactive lab on September 26th from 1 pm to 4 pm.

Local artist, Lucas Elliot, will tell you about the new graphic novel he has illustrated, Spy Grandma! You'll also get a chace to do some spy drawing yourself! The Homer Bookstore will have copies of Spy Grandma for sale that Lucas can sign for you.

Pickleball is a paddleball sport that combines elements of badminton, table tennis, and tennis. Two or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a ball over a net. The sport shares features of other racquet sports: the dimensions and layout of a badminton court, and a net and rules somewhat similar to tennis, with several modifications. Pickleball was invented in the mid 1960s as a children's backyard game. ***ALL SKILL LEVELS ARE WELCOME!*** Price of class is $6 for adults and $4 for youth 12+/students/military/veterans/seniors 62+.

Classes are available for adults and teens (12+) on Tues/Thurs/Fri from 9:30-11:30am, Tues/Thurs from 7-9pm (for Sept. '26 only), Saturdays from 5-8pm (CXL'D on 9/5), & Sundays from 10am-1pm (CXL'D 9/6).

The Porcupine is thrilled to welcome Pamyua back to our stage. Join us for an unforgettable evening of storytelling, music, and dance from Alaska’s own “Inuit Soul Music” Artists.

Pamyua showcases Inuit culture through music and dance performance. Their shows provide a platform for sharing Indigenous knowledge and history. Their style draws from traditional melodies, reinterpreted through contemporary vocalization and instrumentation.

Pamyua’s performances honor and celebrate Indigenous traditions through ceremony, song, and dance.

All proceeds from the sale of beer and wine will go directly to Friends of Fireweed Academy.

Bunnell Street Arts Center announces a call for applications to the Ursa Major Fund, a grant opportunity for Alaska artists. Ten $6000 grants in 2027 support artist-led, risk-taking, public-facing projects. Apply September 1 - October 15, 2026 at https://bunnellarts.submittable.com.

The Ursa Major Fund supported by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and administered by Bunnell Street Arts Center funds the independent, self-organized work of artists and artist groups. Applications open September 1 and close October 15, 2026. The Ursa Major Fund will award ten $6000 grants for projects that support artists to engage their communities and experiment with new possibilities. Applications are adjudicated by panelists primarily from outside of Alaska. Awards will be announced in early 2027.

The Ursa Major Fund is an Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts Regional Regranting Program. The Regional Regranting Program partners with local arts organizations around the country to make grants to artists and collectives for projects that chart new creative territory in their communities. Established in 2007, the Regional Regranting Program is now in 39 cities and regions and supports artists whose work falls outside the scope of traditional presenting organizations and/or funding opportunities. Projects supported by these grants have included queer zines, living room galleries, radical seafaring events, reimagination of customary artwork, virtual reality film screenings, among other public-facing experimental activities. Bunnell Arts became a Regional Regranting Partner in 2025.

Bunnell Street Arts Center announces a call for applications for Bunnell's Alaska AIR 2027-2028 Artist in Residence program. The application period runs from September 1 - October 15, 2026 on www.callforentry.org.
“ALASKA AIR” ARTIST IN RESIDENCE:
Bunnell Street Arts Center's Alaska AIR residency program seeks international, US and Alaska artists looking to create new work and strengthen the social, physical and economic fabric of Homer through the arts. Residencies of generally one month are scheduled in fall, winter and spring months of 2027 and 2028.
The Alaska AIR program selects artist residencies that strengthen and engage Bunnell's community and address pertinent themes. These may include themes such as accessibility, inclusion, sustainability, stewardship, skills sharing and exchange, connection, joy, and enhancing community well-being. Community engagement strategies might include collective art-making, performances, Artist in Schools programs, workshops for general or specific audiences (i.e. seniors, youth, etc), or other artist-driven visions.
Bunnell accepts artists working in mediums including (but not limited to) visual arts, literary arts, performing arts, social and civic practice, audio art, moving image, movement, music composition, performance, and more.

Call for Gallery Proposals

Applications are open for exhibiting in the Homer Council on the Arts gallery! HCOA is currently accepting proposals for openings in 2027. Applications for the HCOA gallery will automatically be considered for the South Peninsula Hospital gallery as well.

Proposals for HCOA Gallery Exhibits must be completed by 11:59pm on September 30th, 2026. Artists in all media are invited to apply, with preference going to Alaskan artists and priority to those residing on the Kenai Peninsula.
