We are so excited to have Gretchen McCullough teaching Zumba on Sundays from 5:30-6:30pm. This class is available to adults & high schoolers (14+). The price is $7.00 ($4 to SPARC & $3 instructor fee).

*Be aware - there will be classes CXL'D in October - check schedule prior*

Zumba is a workout that mixes low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party, combining all elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility, boosted energy and a lot of fun.

Bunnell Street Arts Center announces a call for applications to the Ursa Major Fund, a grant opportunity for Alaska artists. Ten $6000 grants in 2027 support artist-led, risk-taking, public-facing projects. Apply September 1 - October 15, 2026 at https://bunnellarts.submittable.com.

The Ursa Major Fund supported by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and administered by Bunnell Street Arts Center funds the independent, self-organized work of artists and artist groups. Applications open September 1 and close October 15, 2026. The Ursa Major Fund will award ten $6000 grants for projects that support artists to engage their communities and experiment with new possibilities. Applications are adjudicated by panelists primarily from outside of Alaska. Awards will be announced in early 2027.

The Ursa Major Fund is an Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts Regional Regranting Program. The Regional Regranting Program partners with local arts organizations around the country to make grants to artists and collectives for projects that chart new creative territory in their communities. Established in 2007, the Regional Regranting Program is now in 39 cities and regions and supports artists whose work falls outside the scope of traditional presenting organizations and/or funding opportunities. Projects supported by these grants have included queer zines, living room galleries, radical seafaring events, reimagination of customary artwork, virtual reality film screenings, among other public-facing experimental activities. Bunnell Arts became a Regional Regranting Partner in 2025.

This is an open time to come walk or run indoors and not have to worry about the conditions outside. We will have background music playing over the speakers. Come get your stroll on!

This is an open playgroup for parents/guardians to bring their young ones* to a great big open space and let them run around and play. Bring your own toys or play with what SPARC has provided (no pedal bikes w/ brakes allowed at this time, only strider bikes & scooters). This class is available Mondays, Wednesdays & Saturdays from 10-11:30am (unless a special event interferes). Cost is $4.00 per child.

* This means toddlers not in kindergarten, or not of school-age yet (~5 yrs. old & younger) -- older siblings are allowed but need to be careful of the littles!

Homer, Alaska – Carla Klinker exhibits Luminous Threads at Bunnell Street Arts Center from September 4 – September 29, 2026. The exhibit opens on First Friday, September 4th from 5-7pm with an artist talk at 6pm. Klinker hosts a two-day nettle weaving workshop on September 8 & 10th, from 530-830 pm at Bunnell Street Arts Center.

Artist Statement:

“This body of work marks an intentional shift toward art-making that begins with love and seeks to illuminate invisible threads of connection. Luminous Threads explores the delicate balance between overwhelming complexity and profound connection. The centrality of light provides an organizing structure within the expanse of natural networks.

Through images of light filtering through branching structures, free-form organic forms, and hand-woven strands of natural fiber, this collection traces the hidden architecture underlying my emotional and sensory landscapes, and maps an ecology of interconnectedness.

At the center of these works, glowing circles and illuminated paths emerge from the shadows, offering a place of refuge and direction. They are invitations to pause, to breathe, and to experience awe—not by untangling the wildness around us, but by finding love, clarity, and peace within it.” – Carla Klinker

Bunnell Street Arts Center announces a call for applications for Bunnell's Alaska AIR 2027-2028 Artist in Residence program. The application period runs from September 1 - October 15, 2026 on www.callforentry.org.
“ALASKA AIR” ARTIST IN RESIDENCE:
Bunnell Street Arts Center's Alaska AIR residency program seeks international, US and Alaska artists looking to create new work and strengthen the social, physical and economic fabric of Homer through the arts. Residencies of generally one month are scheduled in fall, winter and spring months of 2027 and 2028.
The Alaska AIR program selects artist residencies that strengthen and engage Bunnell's community and address pertinent themes. These may include themes such as accessibility, inclusion, sustainability, stewardship, skills sharing and exchange, connection, joy, and enhancing community well-being. Community engagement strategies might include collective art-making, performances, Artist in Schools programs, workshops for general or specific audiences (i.e. seniors, youth, etc), or other artist-driven visions.
Bunnell accepts artists working in mediums including (but not limited to) visual arts, literary arts, performing arts, social and civic practice, audio art, moving image, movement, music composition, performance, and more.

Call for Gallery Proposals

Applications are open for exhibiting in the Homer Council on the Arts gallery! HCOA is currently accepting proposals for openings in 2027. Applications for the HCOA gallery will automatically be considered for the South Peninsula Hospital gallery as well.

Proposals for HCOA Gallery Exhibits must be completed by 11:59pm on September 30th, 2026. Artists in all media are invited to apply, with preference going to Alaskan artists and priority to those residing on the Kenai Peninsula.

We're excited to be continuing our Chair Mobility & Stretching class at SPARC! This class is 30-min long on Mondays & Fridays from 1-1:30pm and the cost is $2 to the instructor (Maria or Rowan).

"Chair Yoga" is a gentle practice in which postures are performed while seated and/or with the aid of a chair. Chair yoga classes typically target those with physical disabilities or aging men/women who find a typical yoga session too challenging. It is also a great form of yoga for beginners or anyone who wants to focus on a gentle practice.

Come play soccer, shoot hoops, toss a ball, ride a scooter, play ping pong, or bring a (clean) scooter or strider bike to ride around on, and just be active! This is your time to do what you’d like in an open, safe environment out of the elements.

This class is $4.00 pp and is open to all ages (unaccompanied minors must be at least in 3rd grade w/ parents' permission & signing of SPARC waiver).

Sorry, NO roller skates, skateboards, pedal bikes w/ brakes or motorized toys are allowed at this time.
