Josh is a graduate of the University of Nebraska with a degree in communications and broadcasting, and a Certified Audio Engineer through the Society of Broadcast Engineers. At 13, he got his first taste for public radio when he interned at KBBI, an experience that shaped his career. Josh returns to Homer after twelve years with Classical 90.7 KVNO, in Omaha, Nebraska, where he was senior audio engineer and production coordinator. Previously he was station manager/general manager of KUHB-FM, St. Paul, Alaska, in the Pribilof Islands.

  • The Kenai Peninsula Borough has extended its emergency declaration through October 24. Aleutian Airways began offering services between Homer Airport and Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport on Tuesday, joining Ravn Alaska and Kenai Aviation in providing these flights. The Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly is asking the state to change its policy on school board term limits. Wildlife Troopers are looking for information on a caribou that was illegally killed and improperly harvested near Soldotna last week.
  • A teen crashed a stolen car into a Nikiski house causing 10s of thousands in damage, according to Alaska State Troopers. Karluk, a village of just a couple dozen year-round residents on the southern end of Kodiak Island, will have a school for the first time in five years. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s vessel Okeanos Explorer is docked in Seward after finishing a five-month research expedition of maritime Alaska.
  • Since 2021, the Kenai Watershed Forum has visited more than 50 streams and lakes throughout the central Kenai Peninsula to determine where anadromous fish, such as salmon, can be found. The combination of an El Niño year with record-high sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean has climatologists concerned about fall and winter storms along Alaska’s coast. Three Anchorage teens will be in North Carolina next month to present at the World Anti-Bullying Forum as part of the non-partisan organization Youth Vote.
  • Two Kasilof men died in a crash near Tustumena Elementary School Thursday when the car behind them failed to slow for a school zone, according to Alaska State Troopers. The Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor declared a state of emergency Thursday afternoon [9/14], following high water and the impacts of several glacial dam releases. Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Peter Micciche recently designated September as Recovery Month in the borough.
  • This year, Bristol Bay’s 50 cents per-pound base price had fleet members questioning the industry’s longevity. The dynamic between fleets and processors has existed for decades, with permit-holding fishing crews delivering their catch before knowing its cost, and processors relying on them to do so. The annual Harvest Moon Local Foods Festival is celebrating ten years of promoting local farming with food, activities and cooking demonstrations.
  • Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Superintendent Clayton Holland is planning on another three years in the role. Bristol Bay’s setnet fleet will decide this month whether to join the Regional Seafood Development Association - an organization aiming to increase the value of the fishery. A new citizens advisory committee in the Mat-Su school district will review 56 library books.
  • Alaska Rep. Mary Peltola’s staff announced this morning that her husband has died in a plane crash. A remote live-streaming camera helped locate and rescue a hiker in Katmai National Park last week. This week is National Suicide Prevention Week, an annual campaign geared at educating and engaging both health professionals and the public about suicide prevention. Kodiak residents came together to celebrate the community this weekend, the second year the Downtown Block Party has echoed around the waterfront with live music.
  • A Soldotna woman and 2-year old died in a collision with a concrete mixer truck last Friday near Cooper Landing. A rare double glacial dam release into the Kenai River is causing high water levels and flood risks on the Kenai Peninsula. Hundreds of plastic water fowl raced down the Kenai River this weekend for the annual Kenai Lions Club rubber duck race.
  • After more than a year of effort on a gravel pit code revision, the Kenai Peninsula Borough held its first public hearing on the plan Tuesday night. Gravel pit owners turned out to show discontentment with the latest revision, while the assembly emphasized their commitment to finding a solution. The grocery chains Albertsons and Kroger announced on Friday they would divest more than 400 stores, including 14 in Alaska. A man is suing the city of Soldotna and one particular police officer over what he describes as a mishandled investigation and inaccurate warrant.
  • A plane and a helicopter collided in mid-air over Katmai National Park earlier this week. The plane’s pilot and passengers reported no injuries, but the helicopter’s pilot was injured in the crash. A Soldotna brewery will be transformed into a photography showcase this month, with a focus on scenes from the Kenai.
