Clear skies and calm winds are expected to drop temperatures as low as 25 degrees below zero in some areas.
NOAA releases “Atlas for Aquaculture Opportunity Areas” (or AOAs) in Alaska waters
On February 19th, NOAA released their “Atlas for Aquaculture Opportunity Areas” (or AOAs), the 986 page publication identifies 77 locations that may be suitable for sustainable shellfish and seaweed aquaculture operations in the Gulf of Alaska. Emilie Springer has more details from NOAA.

Semester by the Bay finishes Spring 2026 with a series of presentations at the Kachemak Bay Campus
The University of Alaska wraps up the spring semester with commencement on May 3rd. Homer’s Semester by the Bay offers a marine mammals concentration in the Fall and an environmental conservation concentration in the spring. The students in the spring program finished their semester with multiple events and KBBI’s Emilie Springer was able to observe several of these.

Alaska Copper Ammo Challenge presents bullet rebate opportunity in Homer
Alaska’s Copper Ammo Challenge is a program that encourages Alaskan hunters to use copper rather than lead bullets as a health benefit to scavenging animals. KBBI’s Emilie Springer spoke with representative Ron Clarke about details of the challenge and what it offers to hunters.
