Hundreds of people gathered last week on the Homer Spit to remember Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, who was assassinated earlier this month in Utah.

The show has become an annual event visible from across town, including from South Peninsula Hospital’s long-term care facility and the hillside overlooking Homer.

Homer’s Burning Basket is a long-standing tradition of art and remembrance that culminates in the burning of a large sculpture, made up of natural woven materials.
