Police ID Body Found on Homer Spit

Homer Police Department

Update: Police identified the man found dead on the Homer Spit Saturday as 56-year-old Jeff Wraley of Homer. Wraley's next of kin have been notified. The police do not suspect foul play.

A beach walker found a man’s body on the Homer Spit near Mariner Park on Saturday. Homer Police Chief Mark Robl says the body was discovered around noon.

“We responded to the scene and we discovered a white male adult with silvery gray hair, approximately 55 to 65 years of age, dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound,” said Robl.

Robl says the body has not been identified and he is not aware of any reports of a missing person matching the man’s description.

“His body has been sent to the State Medical Eexaminer’s Office for an autopsy and part of the autopsy process [is] we’ll try to confirm his identity,” said Robl.

Robl says anyone who knows a missing person who matches the victim’s description should contact the police.
