Homer Electric incumbent Jim Levine retains board seat, talks future of power on the peninsula
Homer Electric Association’s elections wrapped up last week. Directors are tasked with steering the electric co-op through a potential Cook Inlet gas shortage in the next few years and transitioning to other sources of energy, while keeping rates stable for its 25,000-plus members. KBBI checked in with District 3 incumbent Jim Levine, who will continue to represent the southern Kenai Peninsula on the HEA board.

Homer grapples with date rape drugging at local bars
Earlier this spring, the Homer Police Department issued an alert on social media that several bar patrons had reported that their drinks had been spiked. But advocates say it’s an ongoing problem in Homer, and urge the public to be more aware and to intervene when they see this type of predatory behavior.

The Homer High School 2026 musical performance for the school year is Footloose, by Dean Pitchford with stage adaptation by Pitchford and Walter Bobbie the event will be held in the High School theater March 19, 20 and 21. Climate Artists Collective meet in Homer to share their passion for art and concerns for climate with the local community
A small group of artists from across the country have joined in Homer for two weeks of work together to share their mutual concern for climate and the planet through art work. Deceased baby beluga whale found and assessed by AVPS
At the end of January, scientists with the Alaska Veterinary Pathology Services (AVPS) were dropped at McDonald Spit near Seldovia in Kachemak Bay to necropsy a deceased baby beluga whale. AVPS partners with NOAA as a Stranding Network partner when the federal agency receives a stranding report. KBBI’s Emilie Springer reports the following details.
