The U.S. Coast Guard said in a press release Monday that they rescued nine people from a fishing vessel that ran aground near St. George Island, in the Bering Sea, early that same morning; and the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly opened its first regular meeting of 2026 last night by recognizing student achievements and taking action on a major hit to the local fishing industry.
