Cases of influenza are up in Alaska this month — an earlier-than-usual start to flu season; Soldotna author John Messick was one of this year’s grantees for the Rasmuson Foundation’s Individual Artist Awards; and some kindergarteners in Juneau have been learning the violin and an Alaska Native language at the same time.
