Cook Inlet fisherman Patrick Dixon introduces new poetry collection publication “Mending Holes” and shares readings with KBBI
Patrick Dixon, retired educator, former commercial fisherman and an ex-Alaskan who now lives in Olympia, Washington published a full-length collection of fishing poetry in June of 2025 with MoonPath Press. KBBI’s Emilie Springer touched base with Dixon to share some of his recordings from the recently released book.

Homer Council on the Arts held their annual meeting and announced community arts awards on Saturday July 19th. Though KBBI was not able to attend directly, HCOA’s Marketing Coordinator Jenna Gerrety, shared details about the event and the community members who received the awards this year.

Homer Council on the Arts 2025 Broadway Bootcamp is Open for Registration and Starts August 5th
Broadway Bootcamp, hosted by Homer Council on the Arts, is a five day theater and creative arts camp that will start on August 5th for Homer youth in grades 8 through 12. Director Jim Anderson spoke with Emilie Springer about more details on what the camp will offer this year.

Dr. Steve Anderson provides a talk on climate change from the perspective of geology
Dr. Steve Anderson, geologist with the University of Colorado, now living in Ninilchik, will provide a presentation on “what rocks can tell us about the future” at the KPC campus on Tuesday July 22. The talk is co-hosted by the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies. KBBI’s Emilie Springer spoke with Dr. Anderson about what brought him to Alaska, his background in geology and a preview of what he’ll share at the talk.
