Local groups bring attention to baby salmon habitat
“We tend to think about salmon as the ones that we catch,” said Kachemak Heritage Land Trust’s executive director, Marie McCarty.“We don't think about baby salmon very often because they're just not part of our lives. So part of the push behind this program is to make sure people understand the whole lifecycle of salmon,” said McCarty.

Kenai Peninsula students raise salmon in the classroom, from egg to fry
Dozens of students oohed and aahed on a cold morning in Anchor Point as biologists spawned a pair of coho salmon and fertilized their eggs. It was the first lesson in the Alaska Department of Fish and Game’s annual “Salmon in the Classroom” program, which teaches Kenai Peninsula students about salmon biology in their classrooms throughout the school year.
