Homer Grown: Aquaponics, Hydroponics and Homeless Youth Outreach

Homer Grown

For this episode we visit with Sonja Martin Young from Alaska Aquaponics to discuss how her goldfish and koi work in tandem with her year-round indoor grow system.

Alaska Seeds of Change chats how their hydroponic operation offers outreach, training, and mental health services to at risk youth in the Anchorage area, while simultaneously providing fresh vegetables to local restaurants and the community.

Homer Soil and Water's, Nicole Arevalo has your weekly roundup of events and opportunities.

We support local musicians like Ryan Black, who provided some of the music for this show. Find his music on band camp here.

If you like this show, please support our underwriters, Woda Botanicals and Wagon Wheel Garden and Pet

Originally from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwest Virginia, Desiree has called Alaska ‘home’ for almost two decades. Her involvement in radio began over 10 years, first as a volunteer DJ at KBBI, later as a host and producer, and now in her current role as a reporter. Her passions include stories relating to agriculture, food systems and rural issues. In her spare time, she can often be found riding her bicycle, creating art from handmade paper, or working in the garden.
