Candidate list complete for October Municipal Elections

City of Homer

The slate is set for October’s Homer Municipal Elections. The filing period closed Monday at 5 p.m.

Donna Aderhold

First-term Homer Mayor Ken Castner is facing a challenge from current City Councilmember Donna Aderhold. Aderhold is in the second year of her second three-year term on the council.

Fellow council members Rachel Lord and Caroline Venuti are both seeking election to second terms.

Lord said in her candidate statement that she looks forward to continuing work on “smart capital projects.”

Venuti, a life-long Alaskan who’s lived in Homer for 35 years, said in her candidate statement that she wants to preserve the “small-town Pioneer Avenue feel” of the community.

The incumbents face two challengers: George Hall and Raymond Walker.

In his candidate statement, Hall says he discovered Homer in 2015 on a fishing trip and wants to “keep a balance in this unique community’s development and direction.”

In his statement, candidate Walker says he’s been living “the Homer Dream” with his wife Coletta for 30 years, and wants to set an example of public service for his grandchildren.

Municipal Election Day is set for Oct. 6.
