We invite the community to honor a life and legacy of Joyanna Geisler who crossed the threshold. Friday, May 16th 1-4pm at the Independent Living Center building on 265 E. Pioneer Ave, Homer. This will be an outside event with shelter from weather provided. Guest are welcomed starting at 1:00. Ceremony/ Speakers will commence at 1:30-2:30pm. The community is invited to remain after the ceremony for further celebrations on the lawn with accompanied refreshments. There will be limited parking available on site reserved for accessible and elder parking. Additional parking will be available across Pioneer at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, at Captain Coffee and Connections Homeschool parking lots. Award-winning naturalist, artist, teacher and wilderness guide, Kim McNett, teaches nature journaling and visual art to all ages. Nature journaling is a practice of creativity and curiosity that draws from our own experiences in the natural world. Learn beginner-friendly field sketching and recording techniques that will strengthen your observation and appreciation of the natural world. Workshop includes a blank journal and use of all needed supplies.
This workshop is outdoors and designed for all ages, children and adults alike! Please come prepared for any weather.

A one-hour walk through the Pratt trails that weaves the ‘who’ and the ‘what’ of the natural world. How do both science and spirit help us understand and appreciate nature? Take a walk with guides Elizabeth Pileckas (Cosmic Hamlet Hikes) and one of our staff naturalists in an exploration of both the sense of spirit and the botanist’s knowing of this local forest. We will combine expert local area knowledge with mindful walking, poetry and play.

Through an interactive, hands-on workshop, trainees will become acquainted with the custom COASST field guide, Beached Birds, and have a chance to try out their newly acquired identification skills on seabird species common to the North Pacific. The COASST training provides participants with the tools to monitor for potential changes in the marine environment and promote stewardship of local marine resources.
