Grow Berries Like a Pro. Are you a new gardener wanting to grow your own berries? Tim Alzheimer and Matt Iverson, with 20+ years of berry growing experience between them, will cover both the big picture topics (site assessment, soil needs, pests from moose & birds to hares & porcupines) as well as the specifics of several different berries: black currants, red currants, gooseberries, honeyberries, and more. Homer Steps Up community walking challenge is a free, four week event running May 1 – 28, 2024. In its 8th year, this popular event is open to anyone on the southern Kenai Peninsula, and regularly attracts hundreds of individuals on dozens of teams to compete for over $3,000 in random drawing and cash prizes. The winning team, based on a cumulative average of their members’ steps gets bragging rights, their name on the traveling trophy and a $500 award for a non-profit of their choice. The challenge is free to register online, and teams of 5-25 members compete by logging their steps using a wearable fitness tracker, smartphone or tracking and entering them manually. New this year is a youth category. Registration and information at www.homerstepsup.com. 2024 Mary Epperson Folk Music Camp
July 15th – 19th 10am -4pmOpen to ages 8-17
The emphasis of Mary Epperson Music Camp is to have fun playing music!
Each student will select their classes from a list of options. We will do our best to place students in requested classes as well as an ensemble group of 4-7 students.
Each day will consist of a whole group gathering, 3 separate 45-minute class blocks, the ensemble rehearsal, and a group close-out.
On Friday, student ensembles will perform from 3-4 for each other and invited guests!
To register, complete the ticket purchase and fill out the camp registration packet by July 7th.

We are so excited to have Maria SantaLucia back at the SPARC, teaching a beginner Zumba class on a NEW DAY, Monday's from 1:45-2:45pm. This class is available for adults & high schoolers (14+) for $6 ($3 for SPARC & $3 for Instructor).
Have fun dancing to a variety of music with strong Latin influences. This is a BASIC BEGINNER level class, great for seniors, and anyone wanting to enjoy movement with a low impact emphasis. This class is 45-60 minutes of movement that will be strengthen the cardiovascular system and help with muscles and mood.

Ask questions of local Coast Guard Marine Safety Representatives, explore hands-on exhibits by local experts, learn about licensing and reporting requirements, and how to get training to stay safe on the water whether you are new to boating, a commercial boater, or a recreational boater.
