KBBI Dedicates On-Air Studio to Gary Thomas

The KBBI Board of Directors is proud to announce the dedication and renaming of the principal on-air studio as the 'Gary Thomas Studio'. Gary served this community at Kachemak Emergency Services, as a member of the Homer Volunteer Fire Department, as editor and publisher of the Homer News and as volunteer host and auctioneer for decades worth of fundraising and advocacy events across the peninsula. He was the general manager of KBBI from 1980 until 1991 and helped the station raise funds and celebrate milestones long after he was employed by the station.  The resolution is in full below. 

KACHEMAK BAY BROADCASTING, INC. HOMER, ALASKA RESOLUTION 20-01 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF KBBI NAMING THE RADIO STATION’S PRINCIPAL ON-AIR STUDIO THE “GARY THOMAS STUDIO” WHEREAS, Gary Thomas was the General Manager of KBBI during its formative years and contributed to the success of the KBBI through his strong leadership and credibility in the community. WHEREAS, Gary Thomas was also a volunteer hosting his “Moldy Oldies Show” on Friday afternoons, with the show becoming one of the most popular volunteer shows on KBBI. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the Board of Directors of Kachemak Bay Broadcasting, Inc. herby direct that the station’s principal On-Air Studio be named the “Gary Thomas Studio”. The entry to the studio will be have a sign naming the studio in his honor. The design of the signage shall meet with the approval of Gary’s family. In addition, the family will be offered the opportunity to have a private dedication of the studio if they wish. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the KBBI Board of Directors this 19th day of March, 2020.

Loren graduated with honors from University of Montana and has an MA in International Development and Social Change from Clark University in Massachussetts. She served two years in Guyana with Unites States Peace Corps. Loren has a strong background in community development, marketing, and non-profit management. Loren and her family recently realized the dream of moving to Homer and now happily spend their time exploring the wilds of their new backyard.
