Community Calendar

Come play soccer, shoot hoops, toss a ball, ride a scooter, play ping pong, or bring a (clean) scooter or strider bike to ride around on, and just be active! This is your time to do what you’d like in an open environment.

This class is $4.00 pp and is open to all ages (unaccompanied minors must be at least in 3rd grade w/ parents' permission & signing of SPARC waiver). ***Please check the current schedule for updated days & times, since they fluctuate throughout the school year***

Sorry, NO roller skates, skateboards, pedal bikes w/ brakes or motorized toys are allowed at this time.

Homer Drawdown is a local grassroots community group working to build resilience, sequester carbon, and lower emissions. The current project aims to reduce food and material waste on the peninsula. This meeting will move forward with the projects we have been planning. The meeting is open to the public, April 7th at Kachemak Bay Campus. Pickleball is a paddleball sport that combines elements of badminton, table tennis, and tennis. Two or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a ball over a net. The sport shares features of other racquet sports: the dimensions and layout of a badminton court, and a net and rules somewhat similar to tennis, with several modifications. Pickleball was invented in the mid 1960s as a children's backyard game. ***ALL SKILL LEVELS ARE WELCOME!***

Classes are available for adults and teens (12+) on Tues/Thurs/Fri from 9:30-11:30am, Tuesdays from 6:45-8:45pm, Saturdays from 5-8pm. & Sundays from 9:30am-12pm. We suggest look at our current schedule online for any possible time changes.

The Southcentral Growers Conference is back for its second year, bringing together an inspiring lineup of Alaska farmers and growers ready to share the hard-earned knowledge, practical skills, and innovative ideas that help southcentral growers thrive. Whether you’re a seasoned commercial producer, a market gardener, or tending a homestead, this year’s expanded two-day conference offers something for every level of experience.
The Conference takes place at Kachemak Bay Campus in Homer on Friday and Saturday, April 10 & 11,
Most presentations will also be streamed on Zoom.
Early Bird Registration is $25 per day and increases to $30 per day on April 1. Scholarships are available.

The Sandhill Cranes start arriving this month, so keep an eye on big birds coming into Homer. Send your Sandhill Crane sightings to Kachemak Crane Watch. The City of Homer is accepting public comment on the draft Analysis of Brownfields Cleanup Alternatives (ABCA) for the Homer Education and Recreation Complex (HERC). The ABCA evaluates five cleanup alternatives for the HERC property to remediate Hazardous Building Materials and support future redevelopment of this brownfield property.

This is an open playgroup for parents/guardians to bring their young ones* to a great big open space and let them run around and play. Bring your own toys or play with what SPARC has provided (no pedal bikes w/ brakes allowed at this time, only strider bikes & scooters). This class is available Mondays, Wednesdays & Saturdays from 10-11:30am (unless a special event interferes). Cost is $4.00 per child.
* This means toddlers not in kindergarten, or not of school-age yet (~5 yrs. old & younger) -- older siblings are allowed but need to be careful of the littles!

Join local writers Rich Chiappone and Justin Herrmann for a hands-on writing workshop exploring the possibilities of extremely short personal essays. This spring explores travel, vacations, and other adventures. Write the experiences of your lives together to make memories worth sharing. This class takes place at Kachemak Bay Campus, three consecutive Saturdays beginning April 11, from 10 am to 2 pm in Pioneer Hall and is only $89 for all three days.
