Homer, Alaska – An installation and studio artist from Fairbanks, Tamara Wilson exhibits “Street Lamp” for the month of December at Bunnell Street Arts Center. The exhibit opens on first Friday, December 5th from 5-7pm with an artist talk at 6pm.
Artist Statement:
“Creatures created from a place of wonder, wander, joy, and grief. As my work shifts away from deciphering my curiosity of domestic space, I have become increasingly fixed on what or who occupies these spaces. Manifested from a love for lamps, many of these artworks have literally and inspirationally evolved from the table lamp.
I am an installation and studio artist from and working in Fairbanks, Alaska. I create artwork influenced by daily life in this beautiful place where I have built my home and studio, the ancestral lands of the Dena people of the lower Tanana River. I returned home after receiving my Master’s in Fine Arts from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. I have been honored to attend artist residencies in Tartu, Estonia, Homer, Alaska, and Rovaniemi, Finland. I strive to support creatives across Alaska to give back to my generous community through operating The Lemonade Stand, a mobile art space. My professional life has included numerous fields and trades with one constant: doing whatever is necessary to support my art. As an artist, I use these experiences alongside my practical Alaskan upbringing to create artwork out of remnants of our daily lives.”
Bunnell Street Arts Center’s Visual Arts Exhibit program is funded by membership and business donations, and supported by collectors from Homer, greater Alaska, and beyond. Visit Bunnell’s online store at www.bunnellarts.org. The Visual Arts Exhibit program promotes Alaska’s diverse artistic heritage while elevating Alaska’s artists and culture bearers with opportunities to explore their craft, culture and artistic innovations.
Bunnell Street Arts Center’s mission is to spark artistic inquiry, innovation and equity to strengthen the physical, social and economic fabric of Alaska.
