Homer resident wins an Alaska Ocean Leadership award

Alaska SeaLife Center

A Homer resident is among one of a handful of Alaskans to receive a 2019 Alaska Ocean Leadership award. The Alaska SeaLife Center is awarding Marilyn Sigman with the Marine Science Outreach Award for her dedication and work to ocean education.

Sigman is the former executive director of the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies and has dedicated much of her career to ensuring Alaskans understand ocean science. As a Marine Education Specialist for Alaska Sea Grant, Sigman developed and grew their statewide marine literacy program.

Sigman was recognized for her award at the Alaska Marine Science Symposium on Monday. The Alaska SeaLife Center will recognize her again at the Alaska Marine Gala on Feb. 16 at the Dena’ina Center in Anchorage.
