On Thursday, Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited a 25-year-old Homer man with 18 counts of sports fishing violations on the Anchor River, which is closed by emergency order through July 15 due to low king salmon returns.
According to a trooper dispatch, Afanasy E. Basargin had illegally caught and retained 21 king salmon from the north fork of the Anchor River earlier in this month.
The $4,210 in citations issued to Basargin include intentionally snagging salmon in fresh water, using multiple hooks in single-hook waters, fishing without a sportsfishing license or a king salmon stamp, and failure to record the landing of a king salmon. He was issued a mandatory court date of July 8 in Homer District Court.
