EAS test set for Wed, August 7 at 10:20 a.m.

A test of the National Emergency Alert System will take place on Wednesday, August 7, at around 10:20 a.m. You won’t hear the tsunami sirens or get an alert on your phone. This is a test of broadcast announcements – radio and television – not internet or text messaging.

For the southern Kenai Peninsula, KBBI is the only radio station that’s part of the Emergency Alert System. Tune in tomorrow to AM 890 at home or in your car. If you don’t have a radio at home, it’s time to get an emergency radio, preferably a crank model so you don’t have to rely on batteries or solar energy.

For excellent information on emergency preparedness, listen to a recording of KBBI’s July 31st edition of Coffee Table at KBBI.org. And check out the Kenai Peninsula Borough's Be Prepared page

Kathleen Gustafson came to Homer in 1999 and has been involved with KBBI since 2003.
