CARES funding and city budget on council agenda tonight

The Homer City Council is holding its work session and regular meeting tonight, once again through Zoom webinar, starting at 5 p.m. There are instructions on the city’s website for logging in.

On the committee of the whole agenda are discussion over federal CARES funding and its contribution to the city’s 2020 budget, and there will be an update on the hiring process for a new city manager.

During the regular meeting a new lease assignment for property on the Spit is on the agenda from Icicle Seafoods to Ocean Beauty Icicle as the companies merge. The recommendation is to continue the current 20 year lease with options for two five year renewals. The annual base rent is about $70,000.

The council will also vote on a resolution in support of creating a vote-by-mail system for upcoming borough elections.

The debate over designating the area around the Seafarer’s Memorial as green space is on the agenda again. Sponsors Evensen and Hansen-Cavasos are seeking a land management policy adopting a preservation designation for it.

Under resolutions, the council will vote on one calling for adjustments to the 2020 halibut charter fleet regulations, which the North Pacific Fishery Management Council will soon address.

You can hear the Homer City Council meeting live, here on public radio KBBI.
