Several grocery stores on the Kenai Peninsula are stocking their shelves again after Friday’s earthquake delayed some shipments.
Bob Malone is the store manager of Safeway in Homer, and he said they normally get freight delivered from Anchorage on Fridays.
“We ended up with Friday's freight on Saturday, a day late,” he said. “Then they got us some freight again last night, what was available in our warehouse.”
He says lettuce and other produce ran out and the store ran low on meat and dairy. But as of Monday afternoon, the store was expecting a full delivery that evening.
“So I don't think there's any reason for anybody to get too panicky,” he said. “I think we'll be back to normal pretty soon, as normal as we can be in Alaska. You know, living in Alaska during the winter time, it's not that unusual to have late ships or late trucks because of the weather or mechanical issues.”
He said Anchorage employees did a good job making sure outlying stores, such as their Homer and Soldotna locations, received shipments. Save-U-More in Homer says it’s also receiving some shipments late.
