Little more than a week has passed since the special election results were certified in the Homer City Council recall. The political action committee that pushed for the recall of council members Catriona Reynolds, David Lewis and Donna Aderhold has become active in the matter again.
According to a press release put out by Heartbeat of Homer on Friday, June 30th, Heartbeat of Homer filed a complaint with the clerk’s office Friday, asserting that the three council members broke city code when they did not declare a conflict of interest while certifying the election results on June 19.
In the document, the pro-recall group says that Lewis especially violated code when he seconded council member Tom Stroozas’ motion to certify the results.
The press release was sent out after business hours and City Clerk Melissa Jacobsen could not be reached for comment. Heartbeat wants the complaint forwarded onto the Board of Ethics. It’s unclear how the city will respond.
The pro-recall group is also fighting to have its attorney fees from a court case with the American Civil Liberties Union of Alaska paid by the council members. Heartbeat intervened in the case between the city and the ACLU, which represented the council members. The city and the ACLU came to an agreement to pay their own legal costs.
