The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency are looking for public feedback on a proposed oil dispersant plan in Cook Inlet.
The plan outlines the boundaries of a zone where chemical dispersants could be used during an oil spill. The zone includes parts of Cook Inlet, Prince William Sound, Kodiak and Bristol Bay.
The multi-agency team is looking for public feedback on potential areas where dispersant use should be avoided, including sensitive marine habitat.
A public meeting will be held on Nov. 10 at 1:30 pm in Kenai City Council Chambers. Individuals not able to attend the Kenai public meeting in person are invited to call into a publicly available teleconference line during the meeting (1-866-625-9936; entry code: 8589916#)
Additional public meetings will be held in Valdez on Nov. 16, Kodiak on Nov. 29 and Unalaska on Dec. 8.
More information on oil dispersant avoidance areas and how to provide public comments is available on the project website.
