Homer Gears Up for Fourth of July Parade

Homer Chamber of Commerce

The Homer Chamber of Commerce, many businesses, and community members are gearing up for the annual Fourth of July Parade and Independence Day celebration. KBBI News Director Daysha talks with Homer Chamber of Commerce Visitor and Special Events Manager, Jan Knutson.

One of the Homer residents preparing for the annual Fourth of July parade on Pioneer Avenue, is Catriona Reynolds who is organizing a PRIDE entry.

She says the PRIDE parade entry is an effort to create a more supportive community for everyone.

“So people know that they are not alone and to reduce the feeling of othering that can happen if you don’t know who else is there in the community,” said Reynolds.

Reynolds says the group will be wearing matching t-shirts.

“We have t-shirts made. Holly Brennen created a really beautiful logo that says Homer, Alaska and we have had those printed and they will be delivered tomorrow with the rainbow flag colors,” said Reynolds.

She says they will also carry banners donated by The Alibi. Reynolds says they hope to have at least 30 people walking in the parade. Overall, the Homer Chamber of Commerce says they expect between 30 and 40 parade entries.

Correction: Jan Knutson incorrectly stated the start time for The 'Antique On Wheels Show'. It starts at 11 a.m. on July 4th.
