Record Turnout for Homer Winter King Tourny

The 23rd Annual Winter King Tournament took place in Homer Saturday, with record turnout.

Eric Holland of Homer, won the top prize, $31,668, with a 26.45 pound. King Salmon. Second place winner, Kelly Gross caught a 25.25 pounder. Colt Belmont took the number three spot with a 24.80 pound King salmon.

This year’s Tournament broke the previous record of 1,321 anglers in 2015 with 1,508 anglers participating in 2016. 448 boats, 20 kayaks, and one fisherman from shore using a bait launcher, participated.

Homer Chamber of Commerce manages the tournament. They have listed winners on their website.

Daysha Eaton holds a B.A. from Evergreen State College, and a M.A. from the University of Southern California. Daysha got her start in radio at Seattle public radio stations, KPLU and KUOW. Before coming to KBBI, she was the News Director at KYUK in Bethel. She has also worked as the Southcentral Reporter for KSKA in Anchorage.
