Senator Gary Stevens is hosting a Town Hall in Homer this afternoon. He says the focus will be on the budget situation.
“The budget is going to be the big issue – so laying out the proposals by the Governor and realizing they’re pretty serious. You know he’s proposing a 2.5 percent reduction in the budget plus consideration of income tax and using the permanent fund.”
Stevens represents Senate District P which includes: The Lower Kenai Peninsula, Kodiak Island, Cordova, Seldovia, Yakutat, and Tyonek. Senator Stevens says people should bring their concerns and questions.
“People should bring their questions and we’ll try and answer them. If not, we’ll follow up and try and get answers. I think the crucial things to me are going to be to try to protect education. That’s just one of the really foundational things we have to do is to make sure that our kids get a good education.”
The 2016 Alaska legislative session starts January 20th. The Town Hall is scheduled to take place at the Legislative Information Office in Homer from 4 to 6 p.m. tonight (12/17).
