Nearly 11 Million dollars in funding for construction of a new school in the community of Kachemak-Selo has made it into the Governor’s proposed 2017 budget.
Elizabeth Nudelman is the Director of School Finance for the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development. She says the project would consolidate the school from three buildings, into one.
“The project is to construct a new, approximately 19-thousand square foot K-12 school. And it will replace three leased buildings that are currently being used and that are in disrepair,” said Nudelman.
The Kenai Peninsula Borough would be required to pick up nearly 6 Million dollars for a total project cost of nearly 17 Million dollars. The project ranks as number one on the Department of Education’s annual list.
A budget overview was released last week with the fiscal plan roll out. The actual budget legislation is scheduled to be released today.
