Police Arrest Two After Early Morning Incident East of Homer

Police have released the names of two suspects involved in an early morning incident East of Homer:  Joshua Lathrop and Kirk Damon.

A police report says an officer was patrolling just before 5 a.m. when he saw two people wrestling outside a home across from Paul Banks Elementary School. A shot was fired from a handgun, striking the ground. The victim stated that he saw a second male outside the home, also with a gun. The officer called for backup.

Homer resident, David Flory, says he saw officers in full gear with guns drawn near Blackwell Pump Services, on his way to work just before 6 a.m.

“It looked like all of the officers were geared up in what looked like tactical gear. All of them had assault rifles. I specifically saw one officers, he was leaning against one vehicle that was out in the road, he was leaning against the trunk with an AR15 rifle, looked like he was waiting for something to happen," said Flory.

The police report says the two suspects fled but were tracked down and arrested at their homes.

The victim is being treated for a head injury at the hospital. The suspects told police that they believed the victim had stolen from them. Lathrop faces charges for burglary1st degree and assault 2nd degree and Daman faces a charge of assault 3rd degree, which are being filed with the Homer court.
