Dr, Charlie Waters, Alaska Fisheries Science Center, Little Port Walter Research Station
Dr. Charlie Waters earned B.S. degrees in Biology and Environmental Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Ph.D. from the University of Washington where he used advanced genomic and statistical approaches to better characterize genetic and phenotypic risks associated with salmon hatchery rearing. Charlie is a Research Fish Biologist with the Ecosystem Monitoring and Assessment Program at NOAA's Alaska Fisheries Science Center, Auke Bay Laboratories Division. Charlie manages the research at NOAA's Little Port Walter Research Station on southern Baranof Island, including the ecology and evolution of salmonids and developing approaches to better assess the age, condition, and reproductive status of gadids. He also works to better understand the winter marine ecology of Pacific salmon and is a member of the Pacific Salmon Commission's Chinook Technical Committee.
