Maryam Ghasempour Siahgaldeh, also known as Nilu is an Iranian artist pursuing her MFA in Photography at Kansas State University. Maryam has a solid foundation in graphic design, cultivated during her studies at Tehran Shariaty Governmental University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design. Born and raised in Iran, her artistic journey began there, initially centered on design before evolving into a profound passion for photography and printmaking.
Maryam has honed her skills in photography and printmaking, excelling technically while creating impactful concepts. Her work spans documentary, street, abstract, and portrait photography, often focusing on themes of women’s rights, freedom, and immigration. Incorporating Iranian calligraphy, she adds a personal and cultural depth to her art. During her MFA, she mastered techniques like etching, monotype, and carving, with some prints reflecting her connection to nature. This blend of photography, printmaking, and calligraphy highlights her versatility and passion for meaningful storytelling.
