Kachemak Crane Watch Count Days

Kachemak Crane Watch Count Days

Saturday – August 24, 2024 – Crane Count—First Day: Citizen Scientists needed for special Sandhill Crane population survey in the Homer area (Anchor Point South). Kachemak Crane Watch would like to know of specific crane sightings on August 24th, August 31tst and final count day September 7th. Please report the number of adults, colts, or banded cranes seen by location, time, and day, and your name and contact information for the final count day to reports@cranewatch.org or by calling 907-235-6262. For more information, contact Nina Faust at 235-6262.

Special part of the day is counting crane arriving to roost at Beluga Slough. From 6 pm until sundown craniacs will meet at the picnic table past Two Sisters to count all cranes landing during that time. The special treat is watching the families arrive with their newly flying colts. The acrobatics are usually entertaining. See you there/1
