Bentwood Hat Making Class

Bentwood Hat Making Class
We are excited to welcome Patty Lekanoff-Gregory, an Unangax̂ bentwood hat maker and instructor, to share her knowledge and expertise with the Homer community. The art of making the visor was lost for over one hundred years and Patty is one artist helping to preserve and share this art.
Participants will have the chance to make very own Bentwood Hat throughout the course of a week, with 2-3 hours available for work and instruction each day. It takes roughly 15 hours to complete your hat. There will be three different session times (late morning, afternoon, evening) offered between Sunday, March 10 - Saturday, March 16. Session options are A: late-morning from 11am-1pm, B: afternoon from 2-4pm and C: evening 5-7pm. Note you can only come to your registered session (late-morning, afternoon, evening) every day due to limited space and tools, and it is encouraged to come to each session to complete your hat in 7 days of instruction. There is a lot of physical work involved including sanding (hours of sanding), carving, painting, etc.
