Beached Bird Surveyor Training

Beached Bird Surveyor Training

The Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team (COASST) is hosting a beached bird surveyor training in Seward, AK on Thursday, June 12th, 2025. COASST participants collect monthly data on beached seabird carcasses to better understand changes in bird mortality on North Pacific beaches and seabird conservation. During the training, attendees will gain experience with the COASST field guide and bird identification. Our volunteers come from all different backgrounds, but all share a love of the beach. No prior experience in science and/or birding is required! We only ask that volunteers commit to surveying a beach once a month.

For more information and to reserve a training spot, please contact COASST at 206-221-6893 or coasst@uw.edu. More information can be found about COASST at coasst.org.
