40th Annual CoastWalk Kickoff

40th Annual CoastWalk Kickoff
Join us in celebrating our 40th annual CoastWalk Cleanup! From 6pm-8pm on September 6th, we’ll be at Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies Headquarters celebrating the past, present, and future of CoastWalk before kicking off the 2023 series of events!
CoastWalk is a volunteer-based annual program by the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies to clean the beaches of Kachemak Bay and gather data on marine debris and the environmental state of the bay. Since 1984, this annual effort takes place every fall and provides the state's longest record of collected marine debris data.
At Kickoff we’ll feature historical data and photos of CoastWalks past, as well as active project updates like the biodegradable mycelium cooler project and the local plastic recycling project with Alaska Plastic Recovery. We’ll also be screening the short-form documentary "Keepers of the North" featuring Gulf of Alaska Keeper and CACS volunteers at a cleanup on Gore Point, and the eventual recycling of some of the removed materials. And of course you’ll have the opportunity to adopt CoastWalk Zones and sign up to participate in Community Cleanups!
We hope you join us for this beloved community event!
