The third Monday in January is Dr. Martin Luther King Day. It's also Alaska Civil Rights Day. To mark the day and to spark a local conversation about civil rights in Alaska, Kachemak Bay Campus of Kenai Peninsula College invited Salamatof tribal leader Jonathon Ross to present as a part of their monthly, Public Square speakers series.
Ross spoke about the Dena’ina people of Tikahtnu, Cook Inlet. He laid out their traditional territory, and talked about why it matters what geographic locations and villages are called.
