Senior citizens led the way in keeping the Homer DMV open, they run elections in the Kenai Peninsula Borough. Seniors serve as volunteers in the community and  there are plenty of senior business owners and employees.

Homer Athletes Dominate In Senior Games

Homer residents led the pack at this year's Alaska International Senior Games.

The games are specifically for athletes ages 50 and up. Each August, competitors from across the country travel to Fairbanks, where they take part in over 20 sports. The sports range from bocce to swimming to horseshoes.

Homer resident Joe Martin finished the 5K cycling race in just under 10 minutes, earning him a gold medal.

Phone Scams Target Kenai Peninsula Seniors

A common phone scam is once again making an appearance on the Kenai Peninsula. But this time, scammers are targeting seniors.

Michelle Tabler, Alaska Regional Manager for the Better Business Bureau, says she has gotten several reports of the so-called “Publishers Clearinghouse scam” in Homer and Soldotna.
