Voting for HEA board of directors begins next month

Voting will start for the Homer Electric Association’s Board of Directors in a just a few weeks. Anchor Point resident Roy Champagne is running unopposed for a seat representing Homer. The seat was left vacant after board member Don Stead resigned last month.

The board consists of nine directors: three from each of the three districts that make up the service area. Members can only vote for directors in their area.

Champagne would represent Homer, Seldovia and part of Kasilof. On his candidate profile online, Champagne says his goal is to “provide oversight and/or alternative ideas to provide efficiencies to minimize rate.”

Champagne wrote he has thirty years of experience in warehousing, trucking operations and corporate operation and multi-facility management.

Two additional seats are open in district one and two. Soldotna incumbent Dave Carey is running in district two unopposed. David Thomas and Jason Ross are running for a spot on the board representing Nikiski to Kasilof In district one.

HEA will send out ballots on April 2 and residents must return their vote by May 2. Members can also vote in person during the annual meeting on May 3 at Homer High School. Election results will be announced that day.

Aaron Bolton has moved on to a new position in Montana; he is no longer KBBI News Director. KBBI is currently seeking a News Director, and Kathleen Gustafson is filling in for the time being.
