Homer Grown Season 2, Episode 3: Propagations From Clippings, Seed Starting

Homer Grown

We return to the garden (figuratively, of course) to discuss ways we can interact with plants despite recent

sub-freezing temperatures.

Local horticulturalist and self-described 'garden enthusiast', Tim Alzheimer, shares methods of asexual plant propagations including use of clippings, layering and bubbling.

We reair our first Homergrown interview with Carey Restino of Homer Hilltop Farm from May 16, 2020. She discusses seed starting, planning your garden, and succession planting. Restino also shares some of the challenges encountered in the first months of the pandemic.

And Nicole Arevalo of Homer Soil and Water Conservation District has your weekly roundup of events and opportunites in local agriculture.

Support for Homer Grown comes from our underwriters,  Wagon Wheel Garden and Pet and Woda Botanicals.

Originally from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwest Virginia, Desiree has called Alaska ‘home’ for almost two decades. Her involvement in radio began over 10 years, first as a volunteer DJ at KBBI, later as a host and producer, and now in her current role as a reporter. Her passions include stories relating to agriculture, food systems and rural issues. In her spare time, she can often be found riding her bicycle, creating art from handmade paper, or working in the garden.
