Gas leak forces detour around intersection of Heath and Bonanza

A natural gas leak along Heath Street in downtown Homer closed a portion of the road uphill from the library this (Wednesday) morning.
According to Homer Police Lt. Ryan Browning, detours were put in place around the intersection with Bonanza Ave. while repairs were made.
“Apparently somebody was doing some digging on the east side of that intersection and cut a secondary line, cut into a secondary line, a gas line that’s in that area,” he said.
After the break, gas was shut off, and Browning said he didn’t believe there was a danger to the public while the gas line was under repair.
