In House District 30, Republican Gary Knopp handily won the primary race for the seat representing the Central Peninsula in the House of Representatives with 42 percent of the vote.
Knopp, who is in his third term, lead the other Republicans in the race by a wide margin – Rick Koch took nearly 28 percent, followed by Keith Baxter with 15 percent of the vote and 13 percent of voters cast their ballots for Kelly Wolf.
Knopp is less than one year into a three year term on the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly. If he wins in November he will have to resign from the Assembly.
Also in District 30, Shauna Thornton, the lone Democrat in the race ran unchallenged.
In House District 32 – encompassing Kodiak, Cordova and Seldovia – Representative Louise Stutes ran unchallenged as a Republican. Brent Watkins ran unchallenged as a Democrat in District 32.
