Maria Soto

Host, Spontaneous Combustion

Maria has been a volunteer DJ at KBBI since March of 1998. her first show was an afternoon freeform and the rest as they say is history. She graduated with honors from the school of hard knocks with a major in “making really bad decisions”. She did extensive graduate work in the field of wise assery and general mayhem. she has lived in Homer since 1985 and has not regretted one minute of life in the last frontier. She is currently a regular on Saturday nights with a show called Spontaneous Combustion. she enjoys interacting with her 10 or so fans very much. she is originally from Tempe, Arizona but spent her formative years in Venice, California.

  • As the name implies, Spontaneous Combustion is about not knowing what particular genre or format is going to happen every Saturday night. The only rule that applies is that it has to be music that is pleasing to me. This is about me, and what I want to hear. It can be Motown, Led Zeppelin, Top 40, Mariachi, World Music and everything in-between. I often take requests during the show, but only if I like it...
