Embedding in the Arctic Sea

MOSAiC

Today is a travel day for Katie Gavenus. She’s the program director at the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies in Homer. Often, when she’s packing she’s headed for Peterson Bay Field Station or to join the crew of the Tiglax. But today, she’s flying to Norway to join the MOSAiC Expedition, organized by The Alfred Wegner Institute based in Bremerhaven, Germany.

MOSAiC describes the expedition as a multidisciplinary drifting observatory for the study of Arctic climate. Gavenus took the time to sit down with KBBI’s Kathleen Gustafson last week to talk about her role for the next six weeks as a Polartrec educator.

Gavenus leaves on Friday, September 13, 2019 for Norway but can take your questions about Arctic sea ice until Friday, September 20. Email your questions to kgavenus@polartrec.com. You can read her journals and communiques from aboard the Federof through the end of October by going to      https://www.polartrec.com/expeditions/mosaic
