Morning Edition Host/Reporter

KBBI is an eclectic, community-licensed radio station, operating 24/7. Affiliations include NPR/PRI/APM and the Alaska Public Radio Network. We serve communities in the lower Cook Inlet area of southcentral Alaska. Located in Homer, KBBI works closely with KDLL in Kenai. Homer is located on Kachemak Bay – an arts, fishing and tourism community with a mild climate compared to much of Alaska. Opportunities for outdoor and indoor recreation are many.

POSITION SUMMARY

1.   Host Morning Edition Monday through Friday

Provide continuity during morning network programs.

Prepare and deliver scheduled morning newscasts, community calendars, marine and local weather.

Maintain FCC transmitter log, Emergency Alert System (EAS) log, and program log during shift.

Record modules for broadcast on KBBI and KDLL as needed (community calendar, Fish & Game announcements, etc).

Pitching and board operations during on-air membership drives.

Monitor sources for special coverage events and change programs as directed by supervisor.

News Reporting

Other

Check established sources for  messages regarding promos, impaired feeds, rundowns, etc.

Prepare news stories on a variety of beats relevant to the Kenai Peninsula, as assigned by the news director.

Conduct interviews and produce news stories for daily newscasts .

Prepare news content, including photographs and text, for use on KBBI and KDLL websites.

Substitute for news director as necessary.

Produce KBBI and KDLL IDs, spots and announcements as directed.

Participate in regular air-check sessions with program director.

Attend staff meetings, assist with fundraising and volunteer events.

Other duties as assigned

Requirements 

One year public radio and/or other relevant experience

Excellent announcing and production skills; attention to detail

Excellent computer skills, including audio production software

Familiarity with radio automation operations

Excellent interpersonal communication and team skills.

Ability to maintain early-morning work schedule; may include holidays and some weekends

Supervision: This position is supervised by the news director and works closely with the program director.

Classification:  Regular Full-Time, Exempt Salary Range:  DOE; package includes health insurance, medical and leave benefits
