Incumbents Go Unchallenged In HEA Board Election
The deadline has come and gone for candidates to file for this year’s Homer Electric Association Board of Directors election. With only three incumbents filed to run, there won’t be much competition this time around.
HEA Spokesperson Joe Gallagher says this year, there was only one candidate that came forward in each of the three races.
In District 1, Kelly Bookey of Kenai is running unopposed. The same is true in District 2 for incumbent Dick Waisenen of Soldotna and in District 3, where Don Seelinger of Seldovia is running unopposed.
In his 13 years with HEA, Gallagher says it’s somewhat rare for even one race to go uncontested, much less three. The filing deadline passed Friday. Gallagher says the next step is for HEA to mail out ballots to all of its members, which he expects to happen at the end of this month.
He says all ballots will have a space for write-in candidates. Members also have the option of voting in person at HEA’s annual meeting, which is scheduled for May 1st at Soldotna High School.
HEA directors are elected by the members in their respective district, with members voting only for the candidates residing in their district.
