Homer High Students Mourn Loss of Classmate

Aaron Selbig

Students, parents and administrators at Homer High School received the tragic message Monday that one of their own was gone. Seventeen-year-old Cody Devaney died Sunday in what Alaska State Troopers are calling "an apparent suicide."

In a recorded message that went out to parents Monday, Homer High Principal Dr. Gee said that “our thoughts and prayers are with the family in this tough time.” Gee said that counselors would be available to Homer High School students throughout the week. He encouraged parents to talk to their children about the incident.

In an email message to KBBI News, Trooper Spokesperson Megan Peters confirmed that Devaney died Sunday of a self-inflicetd gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m. at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer.
