E. During the last 12 months, the station employment unit engaged in the following initiatives (provide full details, including an explanation if no instructions were conducted during the period involved):
 
1. KBBI staff conducted training classes for on-air volunteers  in December 2007.  Six trainees went on to host live, on-air radio programs.  They were trained in on-air technique, FCC rules, station policy and EAS procedure.  Training required self-motivated practice, an accepted demo tape following station format, observing two live music programs, and two afternoon programs with staff available. Volunteer coordinator Ingrid Harrald was the trainer.
 
2.  Training was provided to Development Director Jonathan Coke at the Public Radio Marketing and Development Conference.  General Manager David Anderson attended a Foraker Group training, “Hiring and Retaining Employees”. GM also attended orientation and training at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting representing new CPB station KDLL Kenai.
 
3.  In March General Manager David Anderson staffed a booth at the Kenai Peninsula Job Fair in Soldotna.  Brochures pertaining to careers in broadcasting were distributed, as well as newsletters and volunteer applications.  In April GM spoke at a Homer High School Career Day panel on his broadcasting education career opportunities in radio.  Also in April, GM and Program Director Terry Rensel presented broadcastiung career information at the Kenai Peninsula College Job Fair.  In September            GM gave a tour and information on careers in broadcasting to teacher Cathy Kaiser’s Homer High School speech class field trip to KBBI.

1.  Advertised for applicants and conducted an on-air DJ training program, with sessions held 11/05 and 5/06.  Other individual training sessions were held throughout the reporting period. Twelve people were trained in on-air technique, FCC rules, station policy and EAS procedure.  Nine trainees completed the program and have hosted on-air music programs. Training required self-motivated practice, an accepted demo tape following station format, observing two live music programs, and two afternoon programs with staff available. Volunteer Coordinator Ingrid Harrald was the trainer with support from Program Director Sonja Lee.

2.  Training was provided to Volunteer Coordinator Ingrid Harrald and BOD member Cris Somers in volunteer recruitment, training and appreciation, as well as legal aspects of working with volunteers.  Program Director Sonja Lee attended the Public Radio Program Directors Conference and the National Federation of Community Broadcasters conference and training, and Foraker Group training in staff performance evaluations.  Development Director Jonathan Coke and Station Manager Allen Auxier attended the RAB training in Anchorage.  News Director Mike Mason attended the Public Radio News Director Inc. and Alaska Public Broadcasting conferences and trainings.  General Manager David Anderson took classes in preparing employee manuals and staff performance evaluations.

He also attended the Public Radio Marketing and Development Conference.  Business Manager Dorle Scholz took classes in financial oversight and understanding financial statements.
General Manager David Anderson took classes for the Foraker Non-Profit Management Certification Program, and a Leadership Series class in Ethical Leadership. All these trainings were presented by the Foraker Group.
